How Does Missing Critters Operate?
When you notify Missing Critters that you are missing a critter, they demonstrate to you all those critters in your ZIP code that have been found. You may even expand the search up to 100 miles. If you see your critter, confirm the match, and they will either share the contact information or send you and the finder to the closest shelter to reunite. If you don’t see your critter, post the guy. It’s an easy process!
If you found a critter, you may use your cell phone camera to send a picture to [email protected]. You can also use the computer to enter information about the critter you found. You can complete this process by describing what type of critter (cat, bird, horse, dog, livestock, etc.) it is and the location where the animal was found. ALL PERSONAL INFORMATION IS STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL.
FAQ for Critter Owners and Finders
- Are there costs or expenses involved? MissingCritters.com is free. However, retrieving a critter from a shelter may incur an unrelated cost.
- Can I pre-register my critter(s)? Click on the tab at the top of the page for “Add/Change Critters.” Set the critter’s status: “Keep my critter on file.” If your critter gets lost, just change the status to “My critter is missing.”
- Does participation mean extra work? Is there a “hidden” cost? It’s 100% TOTALLY FREE. The “extra” work is simply to “aim and click” a cell phone. Critter postings are removed automatically after one week or when the owner in MissingCritters.com confirms the ID.
- Why should animal shelters participate? To improve return-to-owner rates! It is by far the most desirable way for a shelter to reduce its stray population. We create a 100% FREE “window to the world” for shelters and owners.
YOUR SECURITY AND CONFIDENTIALITY are significant concerns. If you believe you have identified a match, Missing Critters will provide the closest pet shelter to make a prudent exchange. If you request to share contact information, they will honor your wishes. They will never share your personal information with any external organization.
