Social Media Marketing Will Soar Above Newspaper Ads by 2020
There’s a frequently asked question that plagues online marketing: is it really worth it? The idea that investing in a social media marketing campaign is a waste of time is very widespread. And many believe that it’s more effective to network, or to place ads in the newspaper. For the moment, this is technically true; however, the growth in social media marketing is about to shoot off the charts. Keep yourself in the know, and read on.
Social Media Marketing is Fast
Social media marketing is actually growing at a rate of 20% per year–this means that, by 2019, it will be worth $50.2 billion. Compared to newspaper advertisements, which will be worth $50.7 billion, social media marketing won’t technically break even. But by 2020, social media marketing will be well ahead of newspapers in the advertising department. Advertising on Facebook and Twitter will soon account for up to 20% of all advertising campaigns, which is up 16% from last year.
Advertising on the Rise
In general, though, marketing is being influenced by a huge growth rate. At 4.4%, advertising expenditures will rise at the same rate as 2016 in 2017. Even with the recent financial crisis, advertising has been on a steady and safe incline. This means one of two things: social media marketing is a smart investment, and advertising is clearly worth the cost. Because social media marketing is so well-integrated into the social site’s interface, it becomes less intrusive, and people are more willing to pay attention. Advertising on social media will soon be the new way of the world; and it’s always good to be one step ahead.
