About St. John’s Bread & Life
Food security is a serious problem in Brooklyn and Queens, NY, impacting a significant portion of the population. This means these persons need more reliable access to affordable, nutritious food. Fortunately, St. John’s Bread & Life plays an essential role in addressing this growing population’s hunger and social service needs. They provide quality hot meals and distribute fresh and healthy produce, meats, dairy, and pantry items to persons and families through their Grab & Go Meals, Food Pantry, Mobile Soup Kitchen, and Mobile Market programs.
Since 1982, St. John’s Bread & Life has served over 20 million meals to their neighbors in need across Brooklyn and Queens. They provide a warm and inviting environment for all guests, offering several comprehensive services, easy access, and helping individuals and families move from crises to more excellent permanency.

Moreover, their services include the following:
- Dining room
- Digital choice food pantry
- Grab-and-go meals
- Mobile market
- Mobile soup kitchen
- Case Management Services (Social, Health, & Legal)
Their Impact on the Community
FY 2022 included the following accomplishments from St. John’s Bread & Life:
- 9,000 persons served weekly on average among all food programs
- 2 million meals = 5 million pounds of food were distributed
- 5. million pounds of produce were distributed
- 40,000 individuals were served through the Mobile Market
- 750 families participated in the organization’s Sponsor a Family Program
- 7,400 hours of accomplished volunteer service
- 3,000 baby and personal care kits were distributed
- 438 individuals were able to access onsite mail service regularly
- $3.3 million in entitlements were secured (TANF, Medicaid, SNAP)
Through the dedication of their incredible staff, passionate volunteers, generous donors, and committed partners, this organization tackles some of the most pressing challenges of its time.
