Google to Reward Mobile-Friendly Websites Starting April 21st
As we explained in a previous blog post, “The Google Mobile Ranking Algorithm: Is Your Website Mobile-Friendly?” Google is going to launch a mobile ranking algorithm. In layman’s terms, Google is going to punish websites that are not easily viewable on smartphones and tablets. And, as we said in that blog, it’s not a question of if Google is going to penalize websites it deems as not mobile-friendly; it’s a question of when.
Well, we now know the when: April 21st!
Google to Reward Mobile-Friendly Websites Starting April 21st
“As more people use mobile devices to access the internet, our algorithms have to adapt to these usage patterns,” explained Google on its Webmaster Central Blog on February 26th.
Starting on April 21st, Google will begin ranking mobile-friendly websites higher in search on mobile devices. Google has said this change will have a “significant impact in our search results.” And while this move makes sense, it could hurt businesses that do not have mobile-friendly sites.
