On July 28, 2015, Adventure Web partnered with AOL Platforms to attend the first-ever MAKERS@Baltimore Leadership IQ Panel Discussion. This event included a wide variety of guests from across different industries, including Advertising, Real Estate, and Baltimore startups. Panelists included in-house leaders from MAKERS@Baltimore and our very own Gina Ramsey, Vice President of Digital Media at Adventure Web Interactive.
What Did the Discussion Cover?
The event began with a video introduction that highlighted the views of several employees on what leadership means to them, how to achieve leadership, and how managers compare to leaders. The panelists also gave their views and experience as leaders and answered questions from the audience. Some of the key takeaways from this discussion included humility, empathy, influence, humor, retrospection, values, believing and being proud of the work you are doing, flexibility, and lack of fear of failure. Gina Ramsey said of being a leader in her industry, “Raise your hand and ask for what you want.”
What’s Next from MAKERS@Baltimore?
Part of the discussion focused around how gender affects how people perceive leadership, which segues into the next event to be held in August. Two of the panelists, Doug and Allie, led a great discussion about gender bias and how it can be used as both an advantage and disadvantage in the work place. The topic for this month’s event is “Unconscious Bias” and will discuss how diversity in the workplace is critical to an organization’s success.
