3 Social Media Marketing Mistakes You Should Never Make
It can be a challenge to keep up with your competition on social media. And sometimes when you are trying to stay on-trend, you can commit a social media faux pas. Nobody’s perfect. However, there are some mistakes that you should definitely never make. Here are three of the worst social media marketing mistakes you could make when promoting your business.
Buying Likes
Whether your main channel is on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter, you might have heard about how some businesses get ahead by paying off some of their audience for likes and positive feedback. But this tempting idea is a trap that will damage your credibility in the long run. People are naturally more suspicious of a business’s intentions on social media. And not only will buying likes look like cheating but it could even get you into legal trouble. What you should do instead is offer promotions and discounts and encourage people to put post their honest opinion of your business or to tag your business if they liked it.
Forgetting to Fact-Check
Another mistake that can hurt your credibility is reposting erroneous information. Everybody has heard of fake news, and you don’t want to accidentally help spread around incorrect information. If your audience sees that something you posted is based on phony information, then they might question whether you were intentionally trying to lie to them. Bad sources reflect back on your business, and you don’t want people to mistrust you because of someone else’s deceptive ways.
Posting Too Much
It might sound strange that posting too often would be considered a mistake, but there are a couple of reasons why you can have too much of a good thing. First, it’s important to make sure that your posts stay relevant to your audience. It’s better to keep an eye on the trends and latch on to what fits your business with a timely hashtag than it is to constantly spam your social media subscribers. Another reason posting too much hurts your business is that you are wasting your effort. Most people check their social media a lot more at the beginning and end of the day, so they might miss a lot of your posts anyway. It’s best to keep it at five or six posts maximum per day.
