Facebook recently announced it’s changing access to the site to an HTTP Secure (https) connection. The change will increase the security for those accessing the site. As you’ve probably guessed, you can identify a secure connection when a site’s URL begins with “https:” instead of “http:.” For more on this story, read this article.

We came across this article from Entrepreneur magazine and wanted to pass it on. It succinctly describes the ways small businesses can utilize social media to build their brands. We’d like to make it more succinct by highlighting the main points.
- You can have one core social medium be your core destination, but make sure you’re present on multiple media to direct users to that core.
- Continually develop meaningful content to attract the attention of readers and search engines.
- Become an active participant in the blogs and fora that your target audience frequents.
- Engage the content of those who influence your target audience by commenting on their blog posts, retweeting their posts, and even introducing yourself if appropriate.
- Limit your self-promotional activity. Helpful advice attracts potential customers; shilling will drive them away.

Adventure Web’s own Gina Ramsey spoke this week to approximately 250 sixth and seventh graders at Baltimore Leadership School for Young Women. Gina was invited to speak at the charter school on the topic of safety and security on the Internet.
“There are so many dangers online to young people especially young women,” Gina said. “There’s no escaping the Internet, but there’s a way to be online and still be safe.”
