Adventure Web’s CEO, Craig Kahl, Featured in The Examiner

Friday, February 25th, 2011

This week Adventure Web Productions saw a familiar face on the Business & Finance pages of The Examiner—the CEO, Craig Kahl.  Gerry Hanlon, an Examiner business writer in Baltimore, wrote an article detailing Kahl’s relaxed, yet focused business philosophy.

Craig started Adventure Web Productions 13 years ago and since its inception he has always held strong to running a client-focused company. The CEO explained, “When I started Adventure Web , I made it a point to get to know every one of my clients. I still do. Whenever we hire someone new at Adventure Web, we make sure they know that their success – and ours – depends on the success of the businesses we serve.” Adventure Web’s team manages to keep over 900 clients at the top of the search engine optimization week after week. This constant success is made possible not by a swanky office space or downtown harbor views, but by a simple workspace with focused and results-driven workers.

5 branding tips for social media

Wednesday, January 5th, 2011

We came across this article from Entrepreneur magazine and wanted to pass it on.  It succinctly describes the ways small businesses can utilize social media to build their brands.  We’d like to make it more succinct by highlighting the main points.

  1. You can have one core social medium be your core destination, but make sure you’re present on multiple media to direct users to that core.
  2. Continually develop meaningful content to attract the attention of readers and search engines.
  3. Become an active participant in the blogs and fora that your target audience frequents.
  4. Engage the content of those who influence your target audience by commenting on their blog posts, retweeting their posts, and even introducing yourself if appropriate.
  5. Limit your self-promotional activity.  Helpful advice attracts potential customers; shilling will drive them away.

Google, Verizon tackle Internet regulation

Monday, August 16th, 2010

Last week, Google and Verizon issued a proposal for the public in general and lawmakers in particular to consider as they think about and discuss internet regulation.  As outlined in this RTTNews article, the proposal suggests ways of minimizing government intervention while promoting consumer protection, non-discrimination, transparency, and network management.

Google and Verizon envision a largely sefl-regulating arrangement among service providers which would maintain and possibly even advance the freedom and openness that makes the Internet so successful.  Service providers would not show favoritism toward any lawful applications or content providers, allowing consumers access to the content and services they wish.  Under the proposed arrangement, the FCC would step in only to adjudicate any customer protection and non-discrimination issues.

Location, location, location goes social

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

We’re not letting any cats out of the bag by proclaiming that location-based social networking is the next big thing. Talking heads have been falling all over each other to declare location-based services such as Foursquare, Gowalla, Yelp, and Brightkite this year’s “Twitter.” However, it isn’t entirely clear how businesses can best utilize these networks. Despite this problem, there are things you can do to be ready when the corporate strategies come along.

It’s easy to see why location-based networks are so exciting. We already have targeted advertising in which consumers see ads that will likely interest them based on their social media profiles. We’ve also seen how social media has become the new “word of mouth” where companies’ reputations are made and unmade. Because networks like Foursquare report a person’s location, each check in is a tacit recommendation of the business to the person’s network. The next step in targeted advertising are ads for businesses that appear when a person is near that business.
